Reflections on Kenduskeag Stream

The weather this weekend was amazing -- warm and sunny. I was outside, running errands and walking all over the historic downtown area. It was beautiful and I felt really inspired to take photos again, which has been missing these last couple of months.

This photo shows a reflection of an old semi-abandoned building on the Kenduskeag Stream.

Bloom

Can someone please tell me what kind of flower this is? I thought it was camelia but none of the photos I googled for camelia looked like this.

BAT is the local public transportation system (i.e. bus) that connects Bangor to nearby towns like Brewer, Veazie, Orono, Old Town, and Hampden. The symbol for the BAT is the silhouette of a bat, of course.

Lichen III

These little (and I mean, teeny) red 'sprouts' on a mount of moss are lichens known as British Soldiers. I was told that it tends to grow in humid but cold climates like up here in Maine.

So do you grow anything at your house?

Lamp

I love the aluminum paneling on this wall and what made it even more interesting is the old street lamp. This lamp is located on a dark alley between two main streets in Bar Harbor.

So how was your weekend?

Bicycle Rental

Here is a bicycle rental shop on Cottage Street, off of Main Street in Bar Harbor. The coastal town of Bar Harbor is located on Mount Desert Island where Acadia National Park occupies most of the land here.

So how often do you ride a bicycle?

Lichen II

Lichen growing on the tree truck in Bar Harbor where the air is usually saturated with moisture. I am beginning to notice lichens every where here in Maine.

So have you noticed anything different in your town?

Thirsty Whale and Portside Grill

These are two of the numerous restaurant signs that are found all over Bar Harbor. Restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops are the most common stores in the downtown area.

So where is your favorite restaurant?

Main Street, Bar Harbor

This is Main Street, Bar Harbor, a coastal town on Mount Desert Island off of the eastern coast of Maine. Bar Harbor is essentially a tourist and summer enclave where the population swells to over 50,000 between June and August each year. During the rest of the year, it is pretty much closed and inhabited by less than 10,000 people.

So have you been to a beach town lately?

I have never seen a golden 'Cheddar' cauliflower until this past weekend at the Bangor Farmer's Market on Buck Street. The small market hosts a variety of vendors selling meats, vegetables, baked goods, food items and fresh flowers.

We have been getting a lot of heavy rain lately. This photo was taken yesterday evening as the storm clouds approached the town.

This little creeper is struggling to get indoors because the weather outside is getting colder by the day.

So do you prefer cold winters or hot summers?

Mallard Duck

This Mallard duck was standing on a large stone surface in the Kenduskaeg Stream during low tide. Normally, the water level would be a couple feet higher and gushing from inland to merge with Stillwater River.

So do you like duck (as in eating)?

This is the new wing of the Bangor Public Library. If I'm not mistaken, the funds for this section of the library was donated generously by Stephen & Tabitha King.
