Main Street, Bar Harbor

This is Main Street, Bar Harbor, a coastal town on Mount Desert Island off of the eastern coast of Maine. Bar Harbor is essentially a tourist and summer enclave where the population swells to over 50,000 between June and August each year. During the rest of the year, it is pretty much closed and inhabited by less than 10,000 people.

So have you been to a beach town lately?

Can't say that I have. But we do have a small community down by the coast with many summer houses and a few beaches, and I do visit that place as often as I can, with camera of course.

Closest beach town for me was Santa Monica a couple of weeks back. Driving along the ocean-bit on business so little time to stop and enjoy. SM not the same as the quaint little harbors along the Maine coast.

It's a charming but rather expensive town. Too cutsey-poo? On our one visit to Mt. Desert Island, we stayed on the opposite side. Quiet.

BTW, we're waiting to see your first post of a Maine blizzard. Any day now.

Well, over Labor Day weekend I went to City Island. An interesting place. Very sleepy. Surprising, given how close it is to Manhattan!

I'm sure it's much nicer in the off season, as are most beach towns (imho)—like the last one I visited, East Hampton. You sure are getting around your new state!

Yes I go to the Jersey Shore quite regularly! Lovely scene today, Ming.

I have never thought of "Bar Harba" as a beach destination. I love the place but swimming in the North Atlantic is for people much more hardy than myself. As a younger man I used to surf the southern Maine beach spots. With a wet suit of course.

Of course ... Seattle is a beach town, sort of. Then there was my ride around Hood Canal going through all sorts of tiny beach towns along the way this past Saturday. Bar Harbor looks like a great place to visit during the off season!!!
