Orono Pharmacy & Ice Cream Parlor

This old sign is located on Main Street in Orono, Maine. Orono is a small college town where you will find the University of Maine at Orono (UMO), which is about 10 miles from Bangor, Maine. I was here to meet friends for dinner last weekend. Unfortunately the pharmacy & ice cream parlor was closed.

So do you have a favorite ice cream flavor?

There is a flavor I'm NOT looking forward to. There's a store on the corner that was clam chowder one year, then it closed. It opened the next summer as an ice cream store, then that closed. Now there are two new signs: "Ice Cream," and "Chowder." I sure hope it doesn't open with chowder flavored ice cream! OMG, I always think of that when I pass by. I'll have to get a photo!

I agree: we would never allow a pharmacy to sell ice-cream here in Australia. Pharmacists have enough strife proving their professionalism by selling makeup and dietary aides.

My favourite flavour is vanilla. Always ... always ... always ... all over the world ...

Yes, ice cream and pharmacy doesn't match - in my world.

My present addiction is choco-mint. A nice match. Usually, I prefer frozen yoghurts and sorbets. Raspberry sorbet!

First, welcome back!
Second, chocolate!
Curious sign, it would be impossible here.

The combination of pharmacy and ice cream was very common in past Maine history. Everywhere we lived upstate you walked down to the drug store to get essentials -and then stopped off at the ice cream counter / parlor for the good stuff. The pharmicist was always on his side of the store though....no mix there.

Flavor-well of course anything with chocolate.

What a terrible disappointment to find that emporium closed when you needed it most!

Re: Hear At Last - I think it was the loud music in my headphones over a period of time that did me in...

Ming, you are back! Whooopppeeee - we missed you. Now I'm looking forward to knowing Bangor through your lens. If that lobster roll is anything to go on, I think I'm going to love the place!

And fine beverage! We have these ice cream places where you choose your (frozen) berries and they crush & mix them up right in front of you. I love raspberries but Husband likes boysenberries! Then we have Penguinos... Then we have lovely store-bought ice creams... And somewhere I swear I used to have an ice cream maker...

cela fait toujours bizarre de voir le mélange d'une pharmacie avec un vendeur de glace ;o)) Je préfère la glace au citron et au melon.

it's always strange to see the mixture of a pharmacy with a seller of ice ;o)) I prefer the ice with lemon and melon.

Ice Cream...yes!!!

If I am eating just ice cream - I want Butter Pecan...

If I am craving sprinkls, hot fudge, or anything else with my ice cream - then it is vanilla...

not a combo found in the UK either - I favour plain vanilla too
