Smoked Salmon On A Stick

There are more photos from my archives because I have not been able to go out to take new photos. This was from The American Folk Festival a couple weeks ago. The vendor sold a thick slab of smoked salmon on a stick.

So have you ever had smoked salmon on a stick?

Arts & Craft

This photo was taken at The American Folk Festival a couple weeks ago. The gentleman in the photo was displaying some of his craft works -- this one is a collapsible wooden basket.

So would you be interested in buying something like this?

Penobscot Theater

This is the entrance to the Penobscot Theater in downtown Bangor where I saw the play, Steel Magnolias last weekend.

The weather here has turned cold here in Maine and the heater is automatically on at night. So what is the weather like in your city?

Continuity of Commuity

This fountain sculpture, entitled Continuity of Community by Clark Battle Fitz-Gerald (1917–2004)is situation right in the middle of downtown Bangor. The buildings surround it have some of the best locally own restaurants and pubs around. In fact, my favorite cafe is just round the corner from here.

So what are your plans for the weekend?

iPhone Wednesday #6

This photo was taken at Thai Siam, a local Thai/sushi restaurant in downtown Bangor while I waited for my dinner to arrive. I ordered the same things -- Thai salad and pad thai noodles -- every time I got there.

Cross Streets

This is one of the major cross streets of downtown Bangor -- Market, Broad and Main Street. The red building in the background is one of the older buildings on Main Street. On the left is a small park with a fountain and a sculpture.

So what street did you grow up on?

Where's My Coffee?

This was what's left in my cup after I finished my double espresso a couple weekends ago. You can see the creama -- frothy coffee oil -- left on the side of the cup.

So how do you take your coffee?

Making Hay

I saw this farm sprinkled with bales of hay in northern Bangor off of Union Street. I love that there is an old farm machine at the bottom right of the photo, which give the photo a bit of story. I assumed it is for cutting the grass and rolling hay.

So have you ever chewed on a piece of hay like in the country/western movies?

Gaggle of Geese on a Farm

I saw this gaggle of geese at a farm near a pond off of Union Street in northern Bangor on my way Hermon. I made a U-turn and parked my car on the side of the road and climbed out to take this photo. But I have yet to see a moose yet.

Have you seen a moose?

Moonlight Night

This photo was taken on Hammond Street looking towards Main Street in downtown Bangor. I was driving down the street when I saw this amazing moon in the sky. It was so large and brilliant that I could see what appeared to be the moonscape. I pulled over and started taking photos. Unfortunately, I was unable to capture the details in the photo.

So when was the last time you pulled over your car to take a photo?

Penobscot Theater

The scallop shell detailing on the awning is part of the Penobscot Theater that houses the Bangor theater company and opera house. Currently, Steel Magnolias is playing at the theater. I hope to go see it this weekend.

So what theater have you seen lately?

Maestro Modesto Nieves

The gentleman on the far left of the photo is musical maestro Modesto Nieves from Puerto Rico. The instrument in his hands is a cuatro, a guitar from Latin America that has four main strings and an additional four harmonizing strings near the base. Mr. Nieves and his band were invited guests at the recent American Folk Festival in Bangor.

So what kind of music do you listen to?

Monday, September 7, 2009

Muddy Rudder

The building with all the festive lights is Muddy Rudder, a restaurant and bar located in Brewer, across the Penobscot River from Bangor. It is a popular spot for locals to hang out and grab a beer or dine in style.

So do you have a favorite local hangout?

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Downtown Bangor

This is Main Street in downtown Bangor where most of the businesses are small, independent retailers and restaurants. The big box chain stores are further north on Stillwater Avenue near the mall.

So do you have a nice downtown area in your city?

Friday, September 4, 2009

Lichens

These seaweed looking plants are lichens, a form of symbiotic organism that grows on tree trunks. The photo was taken at the Orono Bog Boardwalk where they can be seen everywhere.

So what are you plans for the weekend?

Cowboy & Bag

What really prompted me to take this photo of the good looking cowboy was actually his lasso rope bag. I didn't know it was a lasso bag when I took the photo (with his permission, of course) until later when I realized he was part of a dog and rope act at the American Folk Festival last weekend. I love the aged patina of that leather bag.

So do you have a favorite bag?

iPhone Wednesday #4

I walked outside to take a personal phone call when I saw interesting vine growing up against the brick wall. I thought it looked pretty cool so I quickly snapped the photo and went back inside to join the party.
